We went to see The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian today. It was great. Randy liked the first one better but I'm not sure. May have to go back and watch the first one again to compare.
It lasted two hours and 20 minutes but it didn't feel like it and that's in a good way. The action was really fast. A lot more violence and battle scenes in this one compared to the first one. There is also a lot more humor, lots of funny one liners that if you're not paying attention you'll miss.
This movie takes place 1300 years after the first one so there are a lot of changes. The original characters, other than the four kids which are several years older in real life but supposedly just one year older in the movie, aren't shown despite the posters. Aslan, the lion, doesn't have enough screen time either. They do introduce new loveable characters like dwarfs and the mice, which do their very best to steal the show.
C.S. Lewis, a Christian, wrote the books and he did an excellent job, in my opinion, with introducing Bible truths. The first movie had a lot of references with some even saying that Aslan represented Jesus. This movie is no exception, there are a lot of references, you may just have to look harder to find them. We see the expected good verses evil but there is also, a deal with the devil (actually several of these), David verses Goliath, Moses and the Red Sea and a lot references to needing to be true to your faith even when others have doubt.
Yes, I'd say it makes a wonderful movie for the whole family. Sure wish it didn't cost as much to take a family to the movies though, have no doubt a lot of people won't get the opportunity to see it in a theater. It will be out on DVD eventually and when it does, I'll buy it because I certainly want to watch it again.
BTW, I added a link to the official website for the movie. Lots of interaction for the kids.

Great review, thanks for letting me know. Great to think about it in terms of others reactions.
Aslan didn't get much time in this original book, either, as a note. I think Lewis wanted the kids to realize there are times when doubt makes God seem further away than He is. Our lack of faith and distance actually pushes us from him...as it did both of these societies, both the evil one, and the good one. As the books progress, this truth comes up again and again...the less we trust him, the further away he seems, the more we degrade, the closer we come to making bad allegiences when we know we need backup.
We all miss him in the movie and the book...but, I think that's the point...to feel that sense of longing that can draw you to him if you are like Lucy...innocent and searching, faithful.
The first will always be my fav...but I think the later ones actually represent what happens to a lot of Christians as they mature in their walk, or God tries to mature them...they sense "odd times" that aren't that initial "romance feeling" and fall away. He has so much maturing to do in us with our love for him.
I love the thoughts about "waiting" for him and not moving ahead in your own strength, and what happens when you follow leaders who see things differently than you do...the impact you can still have at times, and the partnership that still comes from unity. Not sure I can verbalize all that well...just some initial thoughts churning.
I need to re-read these books!
Great review! Glad you two enjoyed the movie. :) I'll have to add it to the list to see.
theresa, you definitly picked up some different biblical allusions that others didn't notice.
i put together a list of different vieweres thoughts and included yours on the list. thanks for posting this, so i could include your thoughts and perspectives.
Great review I can't wait to see the movie.
Congrats on the post being listed. I really liked this Narnia movie. The film making seemed much better than the first, but someone in the audience said that Prince Caspian looked as though he came from the Antonio Banderas sexy looks school.
too bad they cut out some of that part where Aslan confronts Lucy about trusting her convictions, but i guess they had to make it appealing to the masses... great observations on your review tho!
